Comparison
Samsung voice input and OSSFlow
Samsung voice input is the microphone on the Samsung Keyboard. OSSFlow does not replace that keyboard. It floats over the field and pastes text from Grok or any OpenAI-compatible API. As of October 2026, Samsung's own support page is the source for how their mic works.
What Samsung's support page says
Samsung's US Galaxy page says Samsung voice input works only with the Samsung Keyboard. The path it gives is Settings, then General management, then Keyboard list and default, then Samsung Keyboard, then Voice input, then Samsung voice input. The same screen can be set to Google Voice Typing instead.
The page shows the microphone at the bottom left of the keyboard and uses Samsung Messages as the example. The first use may ask you to accept terms and grant permissions. This page does not add a language list or an offline claim, because that support page does not state them.
What OSSFlow does beside it
Leave the Samsung Keyboard in place. Install OSSFlow, allow the bubble and Accessibility, and add a key. The setup guide is the install. Focus a field so the Samsung Keyboard is up, tap the bubble, speak, and tap again.
The app is free, bring your own key. There is no account and no OSSFlow server. Keys stay on the phone. Audio goes to the provider you chose, over HTTPS. Cleanup is optional. Android 14 or newer is required, and dictation needs the internet.
Which one to use
- Use Samsung voice input if you want the mic that Samsung put on its keyboard and you are happy with that service.
- Use Google Voice Typing in that same Samsung setting if Samsung's page is offering it and you want Google's keyboard mic instead.
- Use OSSFlow if you want your own transcription API, a floating bubble, and text that is also copied to the clipboard and History.
Questions
- Does OSSFlow replace the Samsung Keyboard?
- No. Samsung voice input requires the Samsung Keyboard. OSSFlow is not a keyboard. The bubble works while that keyboard is showing.
- Will OSSFlow work on a Samsung phone?
- OSSFlow needs Android 14 or newer. It does not need a Samsung account. The phone still has to allow Display over other apps and Accessibility, which the setup guide covers.
- Does this page claim Samsung voice input is offline?
- No. Samsung's US support page, as read in October 2026, does not say that. This comparison does not invent it.
- Where does the transcript go if Messages will not take it?
- Onto the clipboard and into History on the phone. Tap a History row to copy it again. Password fields are skipped.
