Voice typing when typing hurts
Speaking a message instead of tapping it can mean less work for sore hands. OSSFlow is one way to do that on Android: a floating bubble pastes text into the field you focused. This page is not medical advice, and OSSFlow is not a medical device.
What dictation changes, and what it does not
You still open the app, focus the field, and tap the bubble twice, once to start and once to stop. That is less tapping than typing the paragraph. It is not a treatment, a diagnosis, or a reason to skip care you already have.
If you also need to open apps, scroll, and tap buttons without your hands, dictation into one field is not enough. Google Voice Access is the tool built to control the phone by voice. The two can be installed together.
Use the bubble
- Finish the setup guide so the bubble is allowed.
- Drag the idle bubble to a spot you can reach. Drop it on Snooze at the bottom of the screen if you want it out of the way.
- Focus a text field so the keyboard is up.
- Tap the bubble, speak, and tap it again.
- If Accessibility is blocked, the text is still copied to the clipboard and saved in History.
When the paste is not the whole task
Android 17 Advanced Protection can block Accessibility for an app that is not a verified tool. Dictation still works through the clipboard and History. You may have one long-press paste left. The setup guide states that limit.
A keyboard mic such as Gboard avoids a second tap target if the microphone key is easier to reach than the bubble. The Gboard comparison says which of those modes stay on the device, and on which phones.
Questions
- Is OSSFlow a treatment for RSI?
- No. It is dictation software. Less tapping is the practical difference. It does not diagnose hand pain and it does not replace clinical care.
- What if I cannot tap the bubble?
- Voice Access can run more of the phone by voice, including text commands. OSSFlow still expects a tap to start and stop listening.
- Does the text stay available if paste fails?
- Yes. It is on the clipboard and in History on the phone. Tap a History row to copy it.
- Does this page promise less pain?
- No. It describes a way to enter text. It does not promise an outcome.
