Grok speech-to-text on Android

OSSFlow's default transcription is Grok. You add a key from console.x.ai, leave the base URL as https://api.x.ai/v1, and dictate from the floating bubble. The phone sends audio to that API. OSSFlow has no server in between.

Add the Grok key

The app is already set to Grok. You only add a key. The same steps are on the setup guide.

  1. Create an API key at console.x.ai.
  2. In OSSFlow, open Settings.
  3. Under Transcription, leave Grok selected.
  4. Leave Base URL as https://api.x.ai/v1.
  5. Paste the key into API key.
  6. Leave Model as grok-voice-transcribe-2.0 and Language as en.
  7. Under Cleanup, leave Clean up the transcript on, and leave Use the same API key and base URL on. The cleanup model stays grok-4.20-0309-non-reasoning.
  8. Tap Save.

What gets sent

Audio, plus dictionary terms as spelling hints, goes to the transcription provider. If cleanup stays on, the transcript, the dictionary terms, and your custom cleanup instructions go to the cleanup model. The default cleanup model is grok-4.20-0309-non-reasoning, using the same key and base URL unless you change that.

History and the dictionary stay on the phone. Keys are kept in Android encrypted storage, or in app-private storage if encrypted storage is not available. Details are on the privacy page.

Dictate

  1. Open an app and focus a text field so the keyboard is up.
  2. Tap the bubble. It turns red while it is listening.
  3. Speak, then tap the bubble again.
  4. The text is inserted into the field. Password fields are skipped. If an app will not accept the text, it is on the clipboard and in History. Tap a History row to copy it.

Questions

Which Grok model does OSSFlow use for speech?
grok-voice-transcribe-2.0, with language en, unless you change those fields. The base URL stays https://api.x.ai/v1.
Do I need an OSSFlow account as well as a Grok key?
No. The Grok key is the credential. OSSFlow does not sign you in.
Can I switch away from Grok later?
Yes. Choose the OpenAI-compatible transcription mode and set another HTTPS base URL. The Grok fields can stay saved if you switch back.
Does Grok dictation work offline?
No. The phone has to reach api.x.ai. OSSFlow does not include an on-device speech model.
