Granola-style voice typing on Android

As of October 2026, Granola Voice Typing is a free Mac beta: hold a key, speak, and it pastes cleaned text. Published plans name Windows and mobile later, with no date and no Android app. OSSFlow does that job on Android 14 or newer, with a floating bubble and your own API key.

What Granola Voice Typing does

Granola launched Voice Typing on 29 October 2026. TechCrunch reported that it works on the Mac, that you hold the Fn key and speak, and that the tool cleans and formats the text and pastes it into the app you are using. The same report says it is available on all plans without limits, and that the company said iOS and Windows were coming soon.

Granola's own docs say "Type with your voice in any app on your Mac." They describe a Mac desktop beta, free in every plan, and "coming soon on Windows and mobile", with no date. Voice Typing is separate from Granola's meeting transcription.

The docs say you turn it on in Settings, then Voice typing, then Enable, and you allow macOS Accessibility and the microphone. You focus a field, hold the shortcut (Fn by default, and you can change it), and a waveform pill sits at the bottom of the screen. You release the key to paste. A double-tap is hands-free until you press the shortcut again or finish from the pill. Esc cancels. A session pastes what it has after 20 minutes.

Granola says it removes um and uh and repeated words, and that it adds punctuation, paragraphs, and bullets or numbers when you are listing. It says it does not answer the words or act on them: it pastes them. It can use screen context to match the app, such as email versus Slack. Until you pick languages, it can use up to three languages set on the computer. Auto-detect keeps each stretch in the language you spoke and does not translate. The default microphone is used, Bluetooth is described as less reliable, and "Mute audio while dictating" is on by default.

What is not on Android yet

As of October 2026 the feature you can install is the Mac beta. TechCrunch quoted a plan for iOS and Windows soon. The docs say Windows and mobile are coming, and they do not name a day. They do not list an Android app. This page does not treat a future mobile plan as a promise of Android, and it does not treat silence as a promise that Android will never ship.

What OSSFlow does on Android today

OSSFlow is free, GPL-3.0 voice dictation for Android 14 or newer. A floating bubble listens. Cleaned text is pasted into the focused field through Accessibility and copied to the clipboard. There is no account and no OSSFlow server. Keys stay on the phone.

Transcription uses a key you add. Grok is the default. Any OpenAI-compatible transcription API works over HTTPS, including a host you point at the OpenAI-compatible audio endpoint. Cleanup is optional and uses an OpenAI-compatible chat API. The app does not run a speech model on the phone, so it needs a network connection.

OSSFlow is not a Granola account and it does not join meetings. It also does not read the screen to restyle an email differently from a chat. It pastes into the field that is focused. If that app will not accept the text, the transcript is on the clipboard and in History.

Which one to use

  • Use Granola Voice Typing if you are on a Mac and you want the Fn shortcut, the waveform pill, and hands-free double-tap inside Granola's beta.
  • Use OSSFlow if you are on Android and you want a floating bubble that pastes into the app you already have open, with your own API key and no account.
  • The two can both be true. Nothing here says one transcript is more accurate than the other.

Dictate on Android

  1. Install OSSFlow and add a key, using the setup guide.
  2. Open the app you want to type in and focus a text field so the keyboard is up.
  3. Tap the bubble, speak, and tap the bubble again.
  4. Read the text before you send it. Password fields are skipped.

Questions

Is Granola Voice Typing on Android?
Not as of October 2026. The shipped Voice Typing beta is on Mac. Granola's docs say Windows and mobile are coming soon, with no date, and they do not list an Android app.
Is Granola Voice Typing free?
Granola's docs say Voice Typing is free in every plan, and TechCrunch reported that it is available on all plans without limits. That describes Granola on the Mac. It is not a description of OSSFlow's pricing.
Does OSSFlow cost money?
The app is free, bring your own key. There is no OSSFlow account and no OSSFlow subscription. You pay the transcription provider you choose.
Will OSSFlow answer a question I dictate?
No. Like Granola's description of Voice Typing, OSSFlow pastes the words you meant to type. Optional cleanup is instructed to return only that text. It does not run the sentence as a command.
